James Mertz is a photographer, filmmaker, and storyteller who was born in Northern Maryland and raised in Southern Maryland.

While it was always a hobby, it took James a while to find his way behind the camera full time. After completing undergraduate studies at Clemson University, James began his career in marketing and commercial real estate, then as a photographer for the Securities and Exchange Commission, before finally scratching the creative itch and enrolling in the New Media Photojournalism program at the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design.

He currently works as an Official Photographer for the United States Senate.
